Another lighting question

I know there is another T5 lighting thread going right now but I didn't want to hijack it with my questions so here it goes...

We have a 29g reef tank and want to upgrade to a T5 fixture. Currently, we are keeping softies and a couple of monti cap frags. In the future, we may want to try our hand at a few of other "easier" SPS corals. Not sure we will ever have clams...though it would be nice to have the correct lighting just in case.

From what I have seen, none of the T5 fixtures come in 30" long size. I am not sure if I should purchase a longer (36") fixture or a shorter (24") fixture? I want to mount the lights over my tank using legs, not hang them from the ceiling which makes me think I may have to go with the 24" length??? Is that right?

Also, is the formula to figure out what wattage we would need 4 watts of T5 lighting per gallon? Therefore, for a 29g we would need 116 total watts?
