Cap Plate corals are dying

Stability is key in this hobby. Maintain a routine and stick with it. Abrupt changes are never good

Thx everyone for great advices.

Dong - my lost is your gain, Saturday home ? :D

I notice that the calcium level is really high in your tank, are you dosing two-parts?

Dosing two-parts can potentially cause ionic unbalance and Alk swing. Monti are very sensitive to these.

So I have reached the conclusion why my corals died.

Wrong way to do WATER CHANGE

For the past 2 months, I figure I would do a larger water change, 20-30g for a 130g tank.

The way I did was, shutting off a main pump and let water rising up to the max level in a sump , then I drained all water out from there. I then refilled the sump with fresh mixed water to the same max level. Lastly I turned on back the main pump.

I guess I have been shocking corals with these harsh water changes.

In addition, while water level went down in the display tank to the sump. I leave 2 Maxspect LED on, and that might as well abuse corals even more.

i do my water changes almost the same way and haven't had an issue. I change 30 gallons every 2 weeks on a tank that is probably 140 gallons total.
