Careful with Zoa rocks around pistol shrimp

I had to treat a small zoa rock for hair algae. When I put it back, I didn’t glue it at first. I saw it had fallen to the sand bed. “Oh I’ll get it later after dinner” I said. Now it’s gone, the pistol must have grabbed it and brought it into his den.

There goes $40

I gave mine a handful of small rubble rock (dime and nickel size). That mostly kept it busy.

Had a plate coral die and the Tiger brought the skeleton disk into the burrow. Found it last night when I was taking out the rock. Look like sponges or something had grown and attached it to the rock.

The shrimp might eject it sometime.
I hope so. I destroyed a good portion of his structure and moved rubble around hoping it will pop up at some point.

Zoas are hearty. I’ve had a frag go missing under the sand for a week or longer and they’re fine now.
