Complexity of a Saltwater Pond

I try this with my citrus, very hard to keep warm... or warmish, wo investing in a lot of electricity

if you build the same thing reefkeeper2 has around his tank i feel you wouldnt have a issue at all. no vandles can get in or any animals. it will stay warm in the winter also. you can add a pond heater to as well. when i worked at tropic isle they had this pump/heater that they used on there water change station maybe that can be a possible heating method

yea roughly. but in the summer months would not need to run it

prob need to run a chiller in the summer though or atleast shade it otherwise you could be looking at close to 90 degree water on hot days

Okay, done some searching and pong a running saltwater pond in FL installed by Wet Work. It's running but no livestock yet but I think they're close to it.
Info on the project.

With the running waterfall, I wonder how much evaporation per day they're seeing.

Haha. Yes, I was just reading that. However, a pond to me is something that is being enjoyed outdoor along with a garden. :)

It is quite a challenge but fun to contemplate. Any chance of selling your wife on the impact of saltwater frontage on your property value?

Flow in a freshwater pond is often accomplished with waterfalls and streams. In a saltwater pond, a surge tank would be interesting and more appropriate.

I would opt to temperate species and a deep center for them to hibernate. Small schooling fish may be visually interesting. You could develop a ready harvest of clams and oysters!

In the summer you could release some tropical fish just as the Gulfstream carries them up here during the summer. But you also may need to organize a local diving club to help you rescue them in the fall.

If you were able to establish eel grass that would help with any contaminants and provide shelter from predators. Freshwater ponds often have pipes covered by rocks to provide effective caves for fish to avoid predators.

But if that fails, you could tell visitors to your home to simply look for the circling seagulls!

Amazing there is not a sign of salt creep anywhere! I am surprised they installed it as an integral part of the home's entrance. I also don't know I would opt for that intrusive of a water fall sound. Not really reminiscent of a saltwater experience. It sounds like you are in a poorly designed fish room. I know you will do better.
