I have had a couple of rtn episodes in the last few weeks. I have a basemnet tank, 500g total volume, the room where i have my tank is near the furnace room. I was wondering if there's a connection between those with basement tanks/sumps and increased oil burning/problems?

Popular opinion now is that alkalinty swings or low alkalinity are the major trigger for RTN events. I think that if your furnace was killing your coral, it would be killing you too.
