Egg crate escape!

Today, a fish jumped through my egg crate top and onto the floor. Has this ever happened to anybody else?

Sure, my water was probably too high in my 40gal breeder, but the water wasn't touching the crate. There's about a centimeter gab between the bottom of the crate and the top of the water.

Somehow, my midas blenny went through the egg crate and dove to the floor. DISASTER!

I was lucky my wife heard the fish rattling the egg crate, found the fish on the floor and put him back in the tank. The golden escape artist appears to be ok.

The glass top is going back on tonight!

Fish can find a way to jump through anything there bodies will fit through. That is why I have a screen mesh top for my tank. The biggest hole in the mesh is smaller than a 1/4". None of my fish can jump out. A couple things that may cause fish to jump is either a fish that is bullying, stray voltage. Check for these things and you may find your problem. Another thing, you should not use egg crate for a top as it can block light from entering the tank.
