Eheim 1260 or Mag 7?

Looking for opinions on which pump to use...Eheim 1260 or Mag 7. This would be used as a return pump submersed in a sump with about 3.5 feet of head. It is going in a Oceanic 45g Tech Tank. I currently use the Eheim for my chiller, and I have had good luck for three years now. The Mag is $100 and the Eheim is $160.

Some of the concerns I have heard about the Mag is that they generate a lot of heat, they are loud, and the quality is inconsistent.

Opinions are needed/appreciated.

This is like comparing a ford escort to a ferrari, there is no comparision. The Eheim is a vastly much better pump.

eheim makes great pumps. I switched my mag out for one and and happy with it. It has put let heat into the tank IMO.

ive been looking to getting a new pump myself. in all my research eheim sounds like a much better buy then the mag, though i have NO PERSONAL experience to base that on

I'd like to add to my previous post. I run eheims on my tank. I have two 1260s that I have owned for three years.

For what it is worth, I have had to replace every single other pump, powerhead or not, at least twice since then. The Eheims have survived four tanks and an electrical house fire that wasted 5g worth of electronics. They will always be my return pumps. They are near silent and efficient, easy to clean, and basically just a very well engineered product.

Thanks guys. I am going with the Eheim for sure. I have one already that has been incredible. I only asked because a lot of people seem to like the Mag's, and they are a little cheaper.

You should also look into the AquaticLife pumps. I have been running the 3700L pump on my 90 gal and the 3300L (about $100) would be a little more flow than the 1260. It has been very quiet (can't even hear it) and minimal heat.
