So this question may have been asked before but i've been out of touch with aquariums for many many years (over 10). What I would like to do is put an indoor 4ft. 8 bulb T5 light grow light fixture over my salt tank . I know it's possible to do it but I want to know what would be the Cons if I do put this over a salt water tank. The lights would be hovering 12" over the water, I would like to hear what you have to say mostly bad or good. Are t5 4 foot bulbs all the same size, in length, and in diameter and pin configuration. Can I put in a T5 aquarium bulbs in a indoor light fixture???
The obvious reason why i'm asking all this is for cost saving we all think about doing it or are doing it at some point and if this is a failure than i'll look into buying a fixture from a lfs. Thanks for your input.

yes you can, as long as it has good reflectors.

Home depot has a "diamond plated" t5 strip thats pretty popular for aquatic plant tanks, lots of hydroponic shops in MA that sell good reflectors, craiglist etc etc...
