Ge I???

As long as it is not for kitchen and bath you should be fine. The kitchen and bath has a mildew retardent that leeches into the water and kills lots of things.

I thought it was GE I that you're supposed to use. GEII says "not for aquarium use" and GE I doesn't say that.

Also, I think I used GEII once and it took about 2 days to dry. GE I dries overnight.

Sorry for being cryptic.

"Silicone I" GE 100% Silicone Caulk for Doors and Windows, Clear

It's sold in the caulk section of hardware stores and can be used for assembling glass tanks, fuges, baffles, overflows, etc.

Dumb ?? to ask, but what is GE I?
General electric

Nate. We use southdown and it says not for aquarium use. GE I has mildew stuff. GE II dosent. Go to RC and do a seach and you will find many hits on this.

It is a 100% silicone sealant made by GE. They have type I and Type II. It is much cheaper than buying aquarium silicone.

Also, I think you can use either, they are just different grades. I believe they make both types without the mildew retardant.

I checked, and as long as you get door & window silicone, GE I & II, neither has the mildew stuff in it. The bathroom silicone has the mildew stuff in it, which I of course inadvertently got earlier today.

I'm just saying I've tried both and the GE II was a real pain in the butt to work with because it literally took over 2 days to lose it's tackiness!

And yes we use stuff that says "not for aquarium use" but if you have a choice between two products by the same manufacturer, and one is labeled "not for aquarium use" and one isn't, which would you choose?

The GE I and II BOTH come in "Door and Window", which has no mildew killer in it. Just stay away from the Bath and Kitchen stuff.

For what it's worth, I went to RC, and did a search as suggested, and found that the broad consensus is that either GE I or II for Windows and Doors is fine to use. A number of posters said that GE I was best for glass-glass adhesion, and GE II was best for glass-acrylic adhesion. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Just allow a couple extra days for GE II to dry if thats the way you go.

Nate
