You are looking at a Remora Nano Skimmer with surface skimmer:

It's useless anyway beyond being way to big. that is the correct position you put the pump on the
skimmer then tighten the screws against the pump to hold it in place.

Surface skimmer is the way to go like 10 buck too

the stabilizers on the pre-skimmer are incorrect and there is no way to attach it to the skimmer?

I had to read your post again.......

I was thinking the screws were there to level the box against the tank. Looks like I'm wrong.......again. :eek:
 
or the fact that the skimmer box appears to be to low ?
( if it goes in the ways it looks )
 
It seems the return would dump right back into the surface skimmer box
