Horse shoe crab in reef tank.

Am I getting myself in trouble for buying a horse shoe crab from petco and put it in my reef tank?

will it destroy my rank?

looks like when they get big they'll attack clams and maybe tube worms...small seems like they're alright though

I've had one in my tank for over a year. It buries itself for most of the time. Pretty cool to watch, but if you keep frags in sand they will get turned over and moved.

what size tank do you have? because live aquaria states that they get to about 2 feet

From the looks of it, you need at least 10sq ft of sand for 1 crab and they prefer water temps colder then 74 degrees.

you saw one at revere beach?!? WOW that's a rare sight, usually someone will send one of their many children out to pick it up for food.

That big and being a sand dweller = avalanches....use caution.

it won't live long in a reef tank if you keep the temps high

I find their carcasses all day long walking down the beaches in cape cod, i dont see how an animal that likes the oceans of new england could be reef compatable because our tanks run on a much higher temp than around here, just my opinion.

haha i go fishing there weekly in the summer and you see people taking BUCKETS of probably 1 inch crabs which should be thrown back but everything is picked CLEAN.
