ID this algae please..

I have this 'new' algae growing on my sand..

What is it and how do I get rid of it??

looks like "red slime algae" there is a red slime remover but I dont recommend it. I would suck as much of it out with a turkey baster, and do a good water change, followed up with another water change in 3-5 days.

I second that. Let me add that you should keep an eye on your alk level and keep it up near 10. Remove all you can ASAP.

Will check all tank parms tonight too..
I made water last night, waiting for salt to mix and temp, I'll change tonight..

You may also want to kick up the flow in the tank as well. Also are you skimming?

If its a relatively new setup its pretty normal to have it. If it is new, it will eventually go away as your tank matures (if you have nutrients under control, and the proper flow).


You can suck it out with a turkey bastor or siphon while you do a water change.
You can also cut back on feeding too if your are feeding a lot, and protein skimmers, refugiums (anything to help export nutrients will help too).
