Is my BTA really H. Magnifica?

It was sold to us as a rose or green BTA. Notsure which- but coloration resembles neither.
While flipping through an invert book I saw a pic of h.mag
and it looked much more like our nem.

link: looks a lot like one here. Same purple/rose base. Green tentacles. However tentacles on ours has pink tips. Really a beautiful specimen regardless.
This is not my image. I don't think I can upload one from
my iPhone :(

Def post some pics that would help a lot... Chances are it isn't an H magnifica as those are a lot more pricier than BTA's and unless the store was clueless and you got a steal it's prob not one...

How long have you had it in your tank? Sometimes it takes a while for them to expand when they're first put in a tank...

I agree. The store owners I doubt would make such a mistake. But the clerk grabbed a long tentacle when we asked for a bta *shrug*

we've had it afew months. I'd be astonished if it was h.mag because of tank stability we've had(or lack there of) but I can't find any pics online colored like ours. No bubble tips yet, but I've read they can come and go. Let me try to get my own picture up so you can see exact specimen.

edit:

i post almost same time as you do. you had it for a few months is a good indication of a good healthy anemone, regardless of which specie you have.

I don't know if picture quality will be good enough as it was taken with my phone. Can't use forum upload feature so I had to uplaod to photobucket.

These are the actual nem. He's not as "fluffed" as usual. He's a big nem(salad plate sized almost)

mouth: has a few white streaks. Idicative of poor health? Or? It feeds well, mouth is never gaping. Nem moves around some but sits it a spot it likes usually.

Does it look like the one here? http://bostonreefers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=93123 Sounds similar: purple base, green tentacles, pink tips. I am the proud owner of one of Matt's. In a different post he referred to it as a 'color morph BTA'. Would like to know its real name myself, though.

When only my blues (actinics/moonlight) are on yes.
Mine are more electric green
the picture I provided washed out the color some.

that is very likely a BTA variation. i like the tips color as it is different. I would trade with you for a rose when your split. my rose attached for your ref.

Thanks, I guess we got lucky. If ours splits I'll definitely keep you in mind. That rose is beautiful!!

That is a RBTA look like Chantel's(IIRC) version which splits like crazy

The little pink tips on the tentacles is very common on GBTA's. Never seen that on a magnifica. Sometimes a green tentacled magnifica will have a creamish hue to the tips, but they look more like subtle bulbs than "tips" if that makes any sense.

Also, the whitish striping is typical for a BTA/RBTA, but IIRC not typical for a Magnifica.

Also, you've had it a while now, a magnifica would probably be either dead or massive now :)

That's a sigh of relief. I don't have the space for a magnifica, although I probably wouldve accidently killed it first which wouldve made me
sad. I've grown rather attatched to it.
