It's about that time again to do the poll of members regarding their favorite local stores. The poll will be a bit simplified compared to last time as few people were even willing to complete it! The poll will likely be performed at the upcoming BRS meeting.

I'm also reducing the distance away from Boston that we are considering. Any shop over a 2 hour drive from Boston as determined by a Mapquest search has been excluded. The last time we had very few responses for shops that far away anyhow.

I'll post a potential list of questions later, for the moment, here is the list of shops within a 2 hour drive of Boston. I'm sure I've missed a few, some may be out of business...please help me make the list more complete.

Thanks in advance.

They are a new store (about 1 year) and they are just putting watter in their new saltwater section. Should be a whole wall of SW fish, corals, and LR. It sounded like they are looking for someone knowlegable to help in the sw section.

Denise's Fairhaven, MA Has good selection and knowledgeable help.

Please take Patnaude's off the list, It's a disgrace what they do to saltwater animals. At any given time you can find dead or damaged fish/corals in most of their tanks.

Sorry I hate to badmouth, but it is a shame.

The Fish Nook, acton, ma
Small salt section, soft corals, Qt fish for two weeks before sale but limited selection usually reef safe fish only, inverts-various starfish, crabs, snails, featherdusters, squirts, oysters, etc.

I really like to support the lfs that deserve it. Which, for 99% that I have visited, that is the case. I have to say though, Exotic Marine Fish Wholesalers has given me some aweful advise in the past. They had a Jack for sale and I asked if it would be good in a 100 gallon tank to see what I would get for an answer. One of the owners said it would never out grow the tank and would be "fine". This fish is in the Tuna Family gets to be 3' long!!!!! I don't even know if you're monster tank would have enough room for the swimming habbits of this fish! That's just one example of the many. That is where I got my advise as a brand newbie and I'm still paying for it, ie; the crushed coral for a sand bed and the canister filter that are both the root of my Nitrate problem. This club has really opened my eyes to the right way to do this "hobby". They will seriously sell anything to anyone.........
