Man made rock

I bought some knowing it was fake for base rock but it seems to grow algae, has anybody had this problem? There is a little hair algae on other rocks but it seems to be mostly on the 2 man made rocks I have.

I stopped using frag plugs for that very reason they are a magnet for hair algae.

as long as your water parameters are in check nuisance algae shouldnt be growing. I would assume

Depending what it's made from it could be leaking Silica and/or phosphates. Hence the only rock with hair algae.

I personally don't trust such rocks. But that's just me.

Since you have no idea how and what it is made from, it could be nothing or get better/worse in the long run. I would keep an eye on your tank or just remove it. Better safe than sorry...

How about if the nutrients are in the material the rock or plugs are made from????
