Mechanical Filtration

I'm curious if any besides me run their tanks without any means of mechanical filtration?

My display dumps down directly into my sump with no filter sock or other method of mechanical filtration. I suppose all I have is my water changes (roughly 25% once per month usually). When I perform water changes I literally spend about 30 minutes siphoning detritus off the bottom of my sump with a turkey baster, which is so tedious it's ridiculous.

Funny part is that despite how I run my tank like this, my nitrates are always reading 0 and phospates usually stay fairly close to optimal level.

I do about the same. If I want to raise my phosphate a bit I'll run a filter sock and not change it for a few days. Otherwise no mechanical filtration at all.

I run filter socks during tank cleaning time then take them out after 24-48 hours

I do use socks when syphoning detritus, that's about it, rinse the socks and dump the water back in the tank.
