Montipora

Can someone give me some insight of what is going on with my Montipora. It looks like there is a small part where it’s bleaching. My tanks is a sps dominate tank. All my Acros are doing awesome great polyp extension and crusting. The only thing I can think of is that my magnesium is pretty high, tested yesterday. It measured 1600. I used the red sea test kit. I did find out that the red sea test kit measures high and mag could most likely be around 1350.

It has been doing really great and growing a lot.

Do you have access to check your potassium level? Montis I was told are fairly dependent on potassium and if low can show some of the symptoms you mention.

Check for monti eating nudibranch.. they are pesky little bugs that are usually found on the underside of the monti caps. They do not affect acros.

Check the caps after the lights are out to see if you can spot any nudibranch on them.. if not, the problem might be related to water parameters or the light intensity.

I had exactly same problems where montis were getting bleached out in patches and acros were doing great.. https://www.bostonreefers.org/forums/index.php?threads/monti-eating-nudibranch.168265/

Sometimes when my plating montis grow so fast the bone shows. Totally normal. Agreed with nudis. If no bugs leave it be. Flesh will catchup
