overflow/pod condo

last night i looked in the overflow of my tank, i was amazed at the amount of sponge and pods that live in the overflow area. mine is appox. 6"x6"x24" deep,with a dorso stand pipe. i was thinking about adding rock rubble to this area, kinda like a pod condo. does anybody do this? is there a reason why i shouldnt try this?

Main reason is it is a PITA to clean and also may grow unwanted algeas you really do not need to add the rubble to have a pod factory as you stated they are there in abundance

I would pass for the same reason Dawn gave. The over flow is going into a fuge or sump, so that is like a pod mansion.
