A bunch of people have asked me about my PFO 250w magnetic ballast at meetings etc that I wasn't sure about. Here are the answers, in no particular order.
YES... it does hum! Its not loud at all, its just an electrical back ground hum. I can't hear it over the cooling fan that turns on when the lights turn on... (This is non hqi, standard magnetic)
YES.... it is HOT! That sucker heats up after running for 3-4 hours. I have it resting on carpet, and while it hasn't melted or scorched it, I'm seriously considering putting it up on something that insulates (asbestos *grin*).
---I'm happy with the lighting. I'm using a 10,000k and a 20,000k bulb in a very crappy custom made (me) hood. The lightbulbs aren't cheesing out like some other folks have mentioned, both fire up real well, quick, no probs.
I wish I had HQI's, but the moguls are working for for now.
I really don't know why so many people ask the same thing about these. I think it might because we all secretly think they are about to burn the place down... (quite possible)
