I currently have a Vertex Omega 150 for my 80 gallon. Last week, I noticed the skimmer wasn't on. After some investigation, the impeller shaft snapped. Adam at Vertex was great help, and sent me out a new one the next day. A few days later, I put my hand in the tank and feel a tingle. Something is leaking electricity. Also I notice my skimmer isn't skimming again. I unplug the skimmer pump, an realized the pump is the source of the shock.
So I am looking at 3 options:
1. New OEM pump. Not sure of the price of this, but I am assuming expensive
2. Replacement pump. I have seen the Tunze hydrofoam recommended as a replacement pump, but these also are expensive. Approaching $200, it might make sense to just buy a new skimmer!
3. New skimmer all together, sell Omega skimmer body to recoup some losses. . Thoughts on the Bubble Magus Curve 5 or SC aquariums 302? Both cost around $200, which is how much I would be spending on a new pump!
