This week I took the plunge and, in addition to the 50 gallon refugium filled with chaeto, I decided to begin filling half of my 150 gallon sump with chaeto.
I went to Home Depot and got a great lighting fixture. It is called the Extreme, Wet Light and consists of the fixture with built in ballast and water proof lens cover. It also comes with a pressure fitting to run power wires out of the housing for wiring to Romex or to a power cord. The fixture takes 2 T8 fluorescent lamps (32 W each, 6500K ,48 inch bulbs) ....I think they cost $15 for the two, but they forgot to charge me ! The fixture was $70 and is built way better than any "fish" or aquarium fluorescent fixture that I have seen.
Hopefully, as the chaeto grows , my latest algae outbreak will subside....but I still have the RowaPhos on stand by !
In addition, I went to PJs for some doggy supplies and to my amazement, they had two large, fat lettuce sea slugs for $15 each.....they are now living happily in my frag tank.
Hopefully they will clean up some of the bryopsis growing there.
