Well not exactly, even though it's a fungus it's really hard for me to believe they are not relatives. This baby has been persistent for at least 4 years and has survived all these bad winters. Last year it was a light purple color.

I sometimes used to have dreams about Acropora growing outside in the air in direct sunlight and sometimes surviving the winter!
