Topic requests for Randy's chemistry discussion at the next meeting

+1 on the additives question.
Also wonder your thoughts on ideal parameters for specific coral types.
i.e. Acans and LPS in general, some say they like slightly dirtier water.
I'm having some issues with them myself and would like to improve conditions in my tank for them.

I knew I would have a question after the meeting. I was hoping you could shed some light on making/keeping Kalk. I make it up in a 55gal drum and add a cup of kalk and just mix it and let it sit for a couple of hours and leave it until next month. A skin forms over the top, some people say it needs to be mixed every couple of weeks, some say its no good, some say stuff just to say something. I was wondering what your thoughts were on this.

I also was wondering what you thought about a constant water change? I talk to you about it on Reef Central one time, and was interested in trying it. Does it work, and what would be the pros and cons of doing it that way.

Thanks for coming to the meeting and sharing some good info with us.

No, don't remix it. That only drives in CO2 and depletes it. I show it is stable over a month or more (unstirred) here:

I use a semi-continuous water change. 1% daily, automatically, spread over a few hours each day. !% daily for 30 days is the same as one 26.5% change, but has no sudden jumps in anything and is little work.

Thank you Randy

As always your very informative and easy to understand for a person who knows nothing about chemistry
