What are my Maroon Clowns doing?

I had this pair of maroon clowns for at least 6 years and i have never before seen this type of behavior. They wont stop brushing the sand away and completely clearing away the sand, exposing the glass bottom.They are stirring up the whole tank. Are they going to mate? I'm clueless right now. Should I start prepping a breeder tank, or am I just overreacting?

They could possibly be getting ready to mate, but not necessarily. They could just be staking out territory, or decided it was time to remodel the house. Clearing a place to lay the eggs is one possibility, but not the only one.

Typical Maroons, aggressive, disruptive, and kind of strange. Just like mine

We did just add a diamond goby. the female clown just burried the gobie under a rock. Much entertainment!

If you are only seeing this behavior after six years consider yourself very lucky, the last fish I would ever place in my tank again is a maroon.

I agree about not ever placing a marron clown fish in my tank again. I have all the bite marks to prove it...
