Hanna alk checker test 2 - 8.5

Red sea labor of love alk kit test 1 - 10.1
Red Sea labor of love alk kit test 2 - 9.8

I did my best to eliminate bubbles and use the accurate amount of tank water.

I have a new reagent for the checker that I will open tomorrow. I know that calibrating the checker is useless because the reagent is what is usually inaccurate.

Anyone else have this issue? Which reading do you believe?

I don't really trust Red Sea ( bad experience) try a lfs or someone local to test

You didn't take out the air of the reagent syringe?

Ok forget it I'm pretty sure I'm an idiot..

I wasn't reading the color change on the Red Sea soon enough I needed to change my lighting.. Just got 8.4 on the Red Sea

Red Sea pro is what I've been using for the past 5 years or so.
What you want is to stick with one brand and look at your tank.

For hobby grade test kits,
8.6 and 8.5 are the same thing.
10.1 and 9.8 are the same

I feel ya. But my issue was that the readings that were the same were not the same. Ya feel me?

I see what you mean, I will not trust Hanna checker.
Hanna checker is colorimetric based testing and Red Sea is titration based testing.
Colorimetric testing for Alk is not accurate, there is a article about this topic.

Get a salifert Alk test kit. It is very close to lab test.

Also for example, EPA indicated that colorimetric testing of Alk is NOT acceptable, go figure.
