Target feeding

I feed my corals every once and a while with dt marine phyto plankton. I have Pc's for lighting and i know thats not good enough for clams but my friend has a tank the same size as mine with the same lighting and hes been keeping nothing but clams since 6 years ago do you think target feeding will help?
