The price of this gadget is 250, but I can get it for $187 brand new. Should I get it? For those of you who got this, does it make life that much easier? I mean, I test alk weekly but my ca probably twice a month at most. It's a relly good price though huh.

depends on how much you hate doing the normal test... from what I have read, it is less accurate than a standard titration test, and takes about as long (albeit you aren't doing anything.. just sitting there waiting for it to give a reading).

Just remember, a calcium monitor (an Ion Specific Electrode, or ISE) is not like a pH probe. It cannot give a real time measurement. You need to withdraw a sample, and work wit that sample by adding a strong base to raise the pH and precipitate out magnesium. Ultimately, the time involved is about the same.

I have two sitting in my fish room, but I use a Salifert kit. :D
