Cerith snails: pumps don't like 'em

Been disappointed with the flow coming from my sump via the return lines for some several months now.
Just decided to go investigate the main pump.
Took apart the plumbing and found five or six cerith snail shells were jammed into the pump's impeller. Seems those nooks the shells were jammed into serve as the channels to propel the water. Since they were clogged, I wasn't getting much flow.
Well, an hour later the pump is clear. I sprayed a little lubrication on the external rod that rotates there to make the pump work. It's pretty much the drive shaft. Nope, it doesn't mix with the water.

Re-did the plumbing (let's hope it doesn't cause a disaster!!!) and fired up the pump again. Now I'm getting good flow up in the show tank. I can hear the water moving through the lines again.
Sure did stir things up in the sump, though. Water got all cloudy for a while.

Next up? Order the 6' VHO bulbs and get some more coral going.

Nice find Moe!

I'm wondering if I have a similar issue in my drain, because I am watching the water level on my overflow creep up millimeter by millimeter......with no changes at the pump side.
