I just received an order of the coarse ARM. It is basically bits of coral skeletons, just like the schuran media. It doesn't compact down like the fine ARM media, but there is a tradeoff. The coarse ARM (or any larger media) has less surface area. If you only have a single chamber reactor, most likely you'll see the efficiency of CO2 going down... meaning, you're effluent pH will be lower for the same amount of calcium / alkalinity being added than on the fine media. If you have dual chambers, the effect would be far less noticeable.
