How often to change hoses??

Just finished putting my skimmer back together and connected the hose to the pump. How often do you replace your clear hoses?? I just did because it was alittle "nonconforming" and was just curious about others. Next step is replacing the return hose...it's been about a yr.

the only problem with clear hoses is they tend to develop algae because light can hit the residue build up.

I agree with yaktop on clear hose alge build up i love the black lee pond hose easy to flex no kinking just dip one end in warm water and it slides right on. the hose they sell at home depot is crap compared to lee pond hose

well, no prob so far (knocking on wood). Not much light in the sump so no algae problem there. I do keep an eye on the return hose...would rather see thru it than not know something is stuck in it. Don't mind changing it out once a yr.
