Unless smart phone control is critical to you, the updated controller of RP-M is pretty comprehensive. It has many timer functions that is not available on Jebao stock controllers.

I read that the new Sine controllers are suipposed to be better than the previous version (quieter mostly). How do I tell whether my version is the new version?

If you purchased the RP-M after July this year, most likely you have the new controller.
