Macro Algae

Anyone have a suggestion of other macro algae besides chaeto and calurpa (sp?) ? Looking to add some other type to my chaeto which is growing well. Read some horror stories about calurpa. What else are people running in there fuges?

If you have a suggestion, maybe mention where I can find some!

Ulva is supposed to be good tumbling in a fuge.

It’s true, Xenia can be used as a nutrient exporter

Gracilaria is another good one. I think chaeto and caulerpa are the top exporters though.

I had xenia a while back in my tank. It was cool but never again. Calerpa I’ve been hesitant with based on the going sexual stories. Not even sure what that means!

Caulerpa releases spores for reproduction. When it does this, the existing caulerpa dies and releases nutrients back into the system. Better off sticking with chaeto.

Yup. I just know there are so many others. Didn’t know if there were other macros for export of nutrients. If not I will keep the cheato for the time being.

Ulva might be the fastest growing one and if you have tangs they might eat it
