Purple Algae id?

Anyone able to tell me what this is? If it's good or bad? I'm guessing it's some type of algae. It's dark purple, came on a coral attached to rock, and is spreading to my liverock

+1 Cyano, I would try to suck it out, it will come off in sheets.
Ugh cyano! Thanks for the info fellas. When you say suck it out, do you mean with something like a turkey baster?

Would a 2 day black out kill it as well?

You could use a turkey baster, but I would recommend trying to siphon it out when you do your next water change.

I know you said it came on the coral you bought but you should also try to figure out what nutrients it is feeding off since it has started to spread in the tank.

The black out might help but you new SPS coral is not going to like that.

Start with the siphon then if you need to try a black out or slime away.

turkey baster and suck out or take that frag out and clean it. but suck out as much as possible as soon as u can to stop spreading. this is part of ur tank maturing everyones goes threw it .after your first year things start to mellow down .in my forst year mine went dinos then cyano then turf alge
