Screen tops on tanks? Necessary?

I've lost plenty a fish to jumping over the years. Wrasses, firefish, filefish, jawfish, are some of the worst for this.

Glass tops are a pain to keep clean. Usually a lot of water condenses on them and then funky green growths appear and cut down on the light going into the tank. An alternate to a screen is to build a skirt around the entire tank. I have this on my large tank. It keeps the light out of your eyes. Problem is it needs to be fairly high around the tank to work. I've only lost one fish to jumping with this 'skirt' on the tank, and of course it occurred overnight, the ONE time I forgot to put one of the panels back in place.
