skimmer/sump question

i am setting up a wet/dry sump for a fish only 72 bow front. i am wondering if i should have the water flow from the tank directly into the wet/dry, and then into the next compartment of my sump where ill put my skimmer. or should i set up a whole new tank where the water will flow from the tank to the skimmer, and then plumb it to the wet/dry. why question is - should the water hit the wet/dry or the skimmer first? if it doesnt really matter, it would be a lot easier for it run through my wet/dry first. ive gotten different opinions so please help me out. thanks, derek

if your doing reef...get rid of the bioballs...your liverock will be the biofilter. I would have the overflow from tank into the compartment that you feed the skimmer with.

It's fish only.

I'd guess skimmer first, because it might get some of the larger stuff out of the water column, before it can collect on the bioballs, and make a mess.
