t5 question

I have a 4x 24w Aquaticlife T5ho and I am wondering if it would hurt the ballast or bulb if I removed one of the bulbs and only ran 3 of them. I didn't get much interest trying to sell it so I figured I could use it for my 20 long planted tank but think 4.8w per gallon is a little high. Thanks.

I have done it with my 2 bulb just to run the atinics

Were both bulbs on the same ballast? I just don't want to burn out a ballast on a night I would rather sell lol.

IIRC if it's a single ballast it won't fire with 3 bulbs unless it's wired for just 3 bulbs.

It is 2 ballasts for 4 bulbs but I didn't even think of it not firing, that makes sense. I might be alright if I just hang the light up higher.
