I have a Birds Of Paradise Birdsnest & a ORA Green Birdsnest that have both within the past day or two randomly started bleaching to snowy white at their bases.
Still have great polyp extension in both and growth has been fine the whole time. But I have a smaller frag of the BOP that doesn't have any bleaching on it, and all my other SPS look fine (pocillopora, acropora, & montipora cap) so IDK what could be the issue.
I'm gonna go test my calcium and alk right now and post results from that.
Otherwise all other levels are fine and where they always are.
The ONLY thing I can think of is that I have been using pH buffer (Kent Marine Super Buffer)
and raised pH from around 7.7 to 8.1 within the past 7 days time so maybe I raised it too fast, or shouldn't of raised it at all?
Now reading that 7.8 pH holds more calcium or something and is better for some SPS and doesn't put calcification into pumps?
IDK.
Anyone have any thoughts on what could be the cause?
Also, you guys think I should snip off the white parts or eave it and keep an eye on it?
If bleaching continues i'm definitely going to start fragging.
