Fragging my neon green toadstool.

My neon green toadstool (a real favorite!) Was seriously outgrowing it's space.

Time for a trim. I used a new razor blade to cut around the rim of the coral. Here is the mother colony post op.

I made about 10 frags. As you would expect, they all look pretty annoyed at the moment.

Dipped in water with iodine and on their way to healing up.

I will post to this thread to document their healing, and the regrowth of the mother colony.

While I was at it I made a few frags of my Hiller screaming green Nepthea leather. Not open yet.

Did you dip the mother at all?
Wish I could have. The mother colony is attached to three different large rocks that are essentially covered with corals. I did this all in the tank. I put a massive bag of carbon in a high flow area and plan to do a 30% water change 12 hours after cutting.

Did you wear gloves? I just accidentally handled a leather with my bare hands tonight and not I can’t get the smell out. I washed with different types of soaps, used sanitizer, tried baking soda, and they still smell.

I have a toadstool looks identical to yours. Fragging it many times as it has grown too big! Never dipped or anything and always grows back quickly. Used a loose rubber band on a frag disk and is attached after a week or two.

I have the same one abs it’s getting bigger abs bigger by the day lol. I might have to trim as well.

I didn't! (I really should have.). No smell on my hands though.

Just finished the 12 h water change. Hopefully I haven't ticked off the other corals too much.

I just super glued mine. We will see how well they stay attached.

Hopefully it works! Mine always slimed away.. also if the elastic was too tight it would split in two. Underrated piece. Also catches the eye of guests!

That looks like the one I have. The one I lost to infection abs I was forced to frag is now growing back slowly but shortly. Was much brighter on polyps and skin. Check out pics of before infection and frags of it.

It really is underrated. Although I do remember when it was first released by Steve Tyree and he had people on a waiting list for them. Even on the Boston Reefers site it was selling for $75 a frag in 2007, which given prices back then, was insane.

It really does draw attention from across the room. My wife, who is very tolerant of my hobby was clearly disappointed that I decapitated it. I'm sure it will grow back. And if not, I now have a whole lot of frags.

Here is a pic of if from a few months ago, before it got huge:

I think mine had higher polyp density when there was less light. Not sure though.

Just after lights on, mother colony is already looking a little better. No obvious signs stress from other corals in the tank.

Today is the first day that I'm convinced the original colony of this coral will survive the fragging. It looked pretty rough for quite some time. Today is the first sign of minimal polyp extension.

Took considerably longer than I thought it would and at least two weeks longer than the frags took to heal.

I have a few frags from my big one that ended up getting chopped due to infection. And they're growing nicely. Those look nice as well.
