Member Donated Livestock and Equipment Auction

Date: Sunday May 20th, 2007
Time: 11 AM - 4 PM

Place: Bridgewater Veterans Club
85 Cottage St, Bridgewater, MA

Pizza will be served.

There will be more details posted soon. The meeting will be a 50/50 auction, which means that the donor of each item will receive back 50% of the price the item goes for at auction.

Livestock:

It's time to dig into your frag collection and find the ususual stuff that will generate a lot of interest at auction. Corals, fish, or invertebrates will all be accepted, but please make sure what you donate is something that there will be a market for. Large, non-reef-safe fish, or invertebrates might not sell well.

Equipment:

New or used reef equipment will be accepted. We are going to keep it to equipment for the hobby though...don't bring in your old TV or computer, etc. Also, if possible please try to clean up the equipment to make it presentable, and make sure you supply accurate information about the equipment (eg. needs new pump, runs fine, tank leaks but...).

We will be setting up a web site that will have photographs and descriptions of each item that will be at auction. We will give more details in a few days as to where to send photos, etc.

Susan (on our BOD, susyq458) is organizing the auction. We are all set for help on setting up the auction, but we could use some help on the DAY of the auction. If you are interested in helping on the day of the auction please PM please PM susyq458.

We hope to have a station available for Paypal payments as we did at the last auction, but we are not certain if we will have it available as yet. Again, more info to follow.

This should be a very exciting and fun event. I hope you all can make it.

Seeing this is a week and a half away, any updates? Where to send photos, etc. for donations?

thanks
bob

May Auction Update

Donations

We are now accepting Livestock and Equipment donations for the auction. If you cannot make it to the auction, but want to donate, please try and find someone close by you that can bring your stuff to the auction. Except in extreme cases, we will not be able to house and care for any livestock donations prior to the auction.

A list of all items available with photos and descriptions will be made available on a web site that is being set up by RobboT. The address of the site will be made public soon when we have stuff to show.

This will be a 50/50 auction (donors get 1/2 the proceeds) so we are organizing the donation process a little differently than in past auctions. We need to collect personal information for inventory tracking and so that payments can be mailed out the week after the auction. The personal information will not be made public. If you wish to donate, but not receive any fraction of the proceeds from the sales please also let us know that.

You can start sending donation pictures to [email protected].
Please include:

Item Name:

Description (you can go into detail regarding care, if a critter, or state of repair/functionality/age, if equipment. Please be as specific as possible (model numbers, even reference to specs on a web page, etc. for equipment so that people will know what they are bidding on and whether it will meet their requirements):

Minimum opening bid: (this is the bid that if NOT reached the item will be returned to you....think carefully on this please).

Photo: (this is Really important for corals/critters as it will be nearly impossible for us to get a decent photo at the auction, and it's hard to see into the bags! For corals it is really helpful to have a photo of the mother colony AND a photo of the frag so people are aware of the size of the frag. If it's not possible to have a photo of the frag, indicate the approximate size. It's also important to have a photo even for equipment so people can get an idea of condition of the item. If you don't have a way to get a photo to us that we can use, we might be able to get someone to come over to your place and snap some shots, particularly if you have a lot of stuff you are donating. Let us know if you need such help).

Your REAL NAME:

Your BRS screen name:

Mailing address: (for check to be mailed the week after the auction)

Paypal address: (if you want payment via paypal)

Phone number: (in case we have any questions)

Once your items are entered in the inventory, you'll get a confirmation e-mail and an item number. Please label your individual item with that number to speed up registration the day of the auction.

Please bag your stuff carefully and keep it healthy (warm) on it's way to the auction. We will have additional bags at the auction in case of problems. If necessary we can help you separate stuff into bags at the auction, but this will slow things down considerably, so please do what you can before you arrive.

Auction Day

Bring your bagged Livestock or cleaned equipment to the Donation table. Each item will be entered in the inventory and you will get a reciept with the Auction LOT number so that you know when your item is up.

Everyone who sends pictures or submits an item description ahead of time will be pre-entered in the inventory which will speed things up for everyone behind you in line.

If the item sells, it will be recorded with the final bid price and put at the Pick-Up table. The reciepts of the day will be tallied and checks will be sent out throughout the week after the auction. We will probably not be able to give individual sellers their totals because our focus will be on recording and processing the items.

If your item does not sell, it will stay at the in-coming donation table for you to pick up after the auction.

Bidders

One number per family. This will speed up and streamline registration and check out.

Anyone who wants to bid at the auction needs to register at the "Bidder Registration" table on Auction Day. If you know you are coming, and want to speed things along for us, you can also send an e-mail prior to the auction. Please don't combine this email with stuff about donations (you'll confuse the heck out of us :) ). Send the email to [email protected] with the following information:

Your REAL NAME:
BRS screen name:
Phone number: (in case we have any questions)
Please also include anyone else that will be bidding on your number.

Admission to the auction for BRS members is free. Non-BRS members are $15 per bidding number. You can always join the club AT the auction.

Susan will reply to any emails. We don't as yet have a sticky to see who is coming.

is there still going to be some sort of website with a sneak peak of what is going to be auctioned off?

That is the plan. We should have images sorted shortly. Keep an eye out for the link.

To anyone who has sent e-mail to preregister, I'm responded to the mail.

To anyone who still needs to register: [email protected]

See you there!

I Tried ;(

Just a suggestion for the future?
FWIW
This is a busy time of year, A less complicated approval/ donation process with a bit more than a one week notice would help a great deal with donations :)

Oh well
Good luck with it!

Marc,

FWIW, we made announcements at every one of the last several meetings about the upcoming auction, including describing what type of stuff we were looking for. We also have had the meeting on the schedule of the BRS meetings since the beginning of the year. Sorry it didn't work out for you. I realize you were interested in donating as a member, but any donations as a sponsor you will have another chance for this year in just a few months.

Sunday sunday sunday!

I can't make the meeting, anyone want to proxy bid for me? I can call in by cell...

Thank you for your great support. There are a ton of really great items going up for auction this time around and remember that the proceeds from this auction are 50/50.

The club's portion goes towards hosting our monthly meetings, paying for speakers, and all the other monthly expenses like hosting this great forum so bring those piggy banks and let's have a great time!

There will be a lot of 2 baby tank breed pink skunks and a lot of 4 of them.

Guaranteed to immediately host in any BTA you show to them.
