Skimmer question

I just added a octopus BH 2000 skimmer on my 55 gal about 1 1/2 weeks ago and it seams that it's pulling just dirty water, yesterday I emptied the cup and this morning there was at least an inch of dirty water again, is this normal? I thought it was supposed to be more of a foam? Is it I just need to adjust the hight of the cup?

Probably need to adjust the height of the cup so you get a thicker skimmate instead of watery.

Well, it's been a month now and I'm still just getting dirty water I've tried adjusting the cup up and down and still just water, also some times I'll go a few days before I get an inch of water and then in one day the cup will almost fill up. I only have 2 small clowns and a goby for fish could it be my bio load is just low? Is it possible the skimmer is not working right?

How is the water level where the skimmer sits, does it fluctuate at all?

It's a HOB so water in the tank fluctuates only what evaporates but I try to keep it topped off to the same level
