Hi Eric,
I wish I know the secret to PE but it's one of those mystery in reef keeping that no one has an answer to. Some say it's the lack of nutrient that the coral are starve so they extend their polyps longer to reach for food. Some say that it's the nutrient rich water that make the polyps extend because there's actually something in the water for the acros to reach for. Some say it's the fish poop. Whatever the case, I don't know. But all I know is that my tank is far from a zeo-driven tank. My nitrate is around 4ppm and phosphate is 0.01-0.04ppm. I feed my fish and when they poop, they spray!
The complete info on my set up is in post #73. Patient is key to sps keeping. The less often you stick your hand in the tank, the better off the tank.
 
How about some clams? First two are newly added from PEA.
