Who has the biggest tanks in the club ?

I find smaller tanks more impressive in the difficulty department.......Big tanks are impressive in the viewing department.

While bigger tanks do offer greater stability, they offer some unique challenges as well.

Big or small tank though, the required commitment is the same if you seek success. There are no shortcuts offered by a larger system, a committed reefer will treat both small and large systems with equal respect and care, don't discount the fact that a larger system comes with greater responsibility either, due to the increased quantity of life under your care.

My hat goes off to all reefers who strive to provide the best habitat for their charges, from 1 gallon to 1 million. :) When properly cared for, any sized reef is something to behold.

Well put Dave

yes that was very well put, I was touching on the room for error side of things with that post btw.

Great comments Dave, I could not agree more. I will also add IMO a larger tank is a greater risk that deserves so much more commitment due to the monetary levels. It is a lot easier to shrug off greater swings in a nano as the contents can not even come close to reaching the levels of a larger tank. We are all playing a part in preserving the oceans reefs by practicing this hobby. One coral’s loss is just as bad as dozens in that respect. My point is it would just plain be easier to recover from a 12 gallon nano crash than it would a 200 plus gallon fully stocked reef. :)

This is quite true as well, both ends of the spectrum present their own challenges and difficulties, one should not venture towards either extreme without first building some knowledge and finding some friends with whom to consult. I can thank the BRS for helping me along in both of these categories, an invaluable resource. :)

I do also agree that was well said Dave...Challanges are there for everyone no matter the size....They just may be different but still striving for the same result.

An internal thriving natural eco system in our livingrooms, dens & basements!!!

Who's bigger is such a "guy term"..

like the big stick syndrome.....

I'm sure it wasn't meant that way....But unfortunatly it can be perceived that way for sure....

I would venture to say that depends on how much is in the nano;) you can fit alot more in it than you think....It requires careful placement and knowledge of growth rates and structures

FYI my 12g has 21 sps frags some small colonies, as well as a couple LPS some rics and the start of a decent zoa collection.

Although size wise it might not compare to larger tanks but I'm willing to bet there are larger tanks with less quantity......

Yeah, but I've had single colonies in my 125 that wouldn't even fit in your nano. Is this thread going to wind up being yet another pissing match? All tank sizes have their advantages and disadvantages. Why can't you just leave it at that?

Someone had a bad day.........

If your tank crashes and you lose 21 corals you grew out from frags to colonies or are still frags or mini colonies your preety much out the same 21 corals....which was my point.......

It's no different than going to a casino with a 100 winning 5000 than giving it all back..........your only really out 100..........

Regardless bigger tanks are still more impressive in the looks/awe category.

On a serious note if you dislike my posts refer to sig.............it's there for a reason.....

Lets try and keep the thread on track (getting old)

I am pretty sure we were talking about who had the biggest tanks

I agree with Steve, just let it go. And your sig doesn't give you a free ticket to say whatever you want without any rebuttal. That's just silly.

You obviously haven't grown out large colonies. It hurts a LOT more losing a large colony that has grown out from a frag than losing a frag or mini colony...I can assure you that much. With a nano, you can get your tank back to how it looked in no time. With a large tank it could take years to grow everything back out. I didn't have a bad day chew, it's just that sometimes you beat a dead horse trying to prove your point instead of just saying something like "Yeah they are both tough to take care of". No harm, no foul...I was just trying to get all the pissing to stop ;)

Ill leave it at this try reading everything i post and not just what you want to see.........

Michelle (Kiah) also has a very large tank. If you add up all the tanks I think she may have the largest total volume running.

I have a 20G display:p.

So is Dave and Ginas 560 is the biggest mentioned so far right?

Anybody pushing 600G of display water?
