Yeah, I'd go with the 2" of sand and lots of LR and macro... not for any particular reason, only because i'd rather have more room for the pods in the rock and algae vs the sand, if they are in the rock and algae, they will get pumped up to the tank easier =).

ok, got linked here from http://www.bostonreefers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=75199&highlight=sump here, now I gotta ask....how much did this cost, roughly? I have a 20L AGA for a sump right now and I don't feel like trying to pull it apart to put in baffles and all that other crap, seems it'd be easier to just make a good sump this way, but I'm running on a budget. Clean looking sump, seems perfect for my 55g display.

It was ~$150 for the acrylic, and probably another ~$50 for tools other materials.
